“Volunteering at the Poverello has been the about the most fulfilling thing I’ve done and the best opportunity to make a difference.”
The Poverello Center could not serve Western Montana’s hungry and homeless without our community volunteers.
Our volunteer program exists to further the mission and goals of the Poverello Center and to enable our volunteers to directly experience our philosophy of providing food, shelter, help, and hope to all who ask.
Volunteers become ambassadors for the organization and they continue to transform the world: one person at a time.
Who are the Poverello Center’s volunteers?
The Pov’s volunteers are women, men, and young people who reflect the diversity of our community. Volunteers come from many different backgrounds, and bring their unique experience to build authentic relationships that transcend class barriers. They are open to new experiences, and to the learning and practice of non-violence, gentle personalism, and hospitality.
What do volunteers at the Poverello Center do?
Every year, thousands of volunteers give their time, energy, and hearts to the Pov community. These volunteers worked an amazing 35,000 hours last year. It is no exaggeration to say that we would not be able to accomplish our work without our volunteers.
Many of our volunteers work along-side staff and clients in the soup kitchen to do early morning kitchen prep, prepare meals, and serve-up food, drinks, and hospitality in a cafeteria setting.
Volunteers can also work in the clothing room, food pantry, provide respite care for children, or provide administrative assistance.
Volunteers can assist at all four locations through a variety of ways.
Volunteers also provide invaluable assistance on special events and through board committees.
At the Poverello Center we encourage one-time volunteer service, large groups, children over fourteen, and folks who need to fulfill school or court-ordered community service requirements.
