What would you do if you were unsheltered, and lost your wallet and its contents? If your identification was gone, it would create a barrier to getting a job, receiving accurate help from law enforcement, finding a place to live, and receiving benefits. Thankfully, in Missoula, there is the Homeless Outreach Team (HOT). One of HOT’s priorities is connecting people with replacement IDs, to make sure that every human can access necessary services. Not only that, but HOT provides food, survival gear, connection to community resources, and helps coordinate medical and legal care while IDs are being made. 

Homeless Outreach Team members spend hours each week supporting businesses, functioning as an alternative to policing, enhancing safety, and supporting individuals through critical struggles. One team member called the organization “boots-on-the-ground,” and the entire team highlighted that the group is able to directly help people, which makes them incredibly effective in the community. They all do this work because they are dedicated to helping people in their community, and many of them have personal experiences or moral values which drive them. To understand the full scope of their work, and the passion behind the team, you would need to grab a beer with them! 

Luckily, the Poverello Center has a way to do just that. We are thrilled to announce our monthly happy hour series, “Pints with a Purpose!” The event, hosted at Imagine Nation Brewing Company, is a chance to connect with the Homeless Outreach Team. Join us on June 28 from 5-7 PM to learn all about the work HOT does, and to meet with a number of people from the Poverello Center who value the Homeless Outreach Team. This event gives you the chance to ask questions, learn, and contribute your support to the team. 

A $10 donation to the Poverello Center gets you a free beer or kombucha, and to add to the excitement, we will be raffling off a $100 Scheels gift card! We hope to see you at Imagine Nation Brewing Company on June 28 from 5-7 to celebrate and support the Homeless Outreach Team!
