The Poverello Center

Staff Spotlight: Maggie Boyer

Over the past 50 years, the Poverello Center has forged countless connections, many of which span generations. One such connection is embodied by Maggie, a remarkable member of our direct care staff. Her story is intertwined with the very roots of our organization, as her sister’s father-in-law, Tom King, was a founding member of the Poverello Center board in 1974. Tom’s enduring impact on the lives of Missoulians is mirrored in Maggie’s dedicated service today.

Maggie’s journey to the Poverello Center is one of resilience and transformation. “I was once homeless and battling addiction,” she shares, “but I have been in recovery for fifteen months. I am actively committed to making positive changes for my sobriety.”

Maggie credits the Poverello Center as the catalyst for her remarkable turnaround. Since joining our team a year ago, she has found her passion in witnessing the growth and evolution of our clients. “Watching them break cycles,” she says, “is my favorite part of working here.”

Maggie’s contributions to the Poverello Center are invaluable. Jen, our assistant shelter manager, praises her, saying, “Maggie is not only an asset to our clients, but she also supports her team with infectious humor and laughter. She shows immense compassion and truly loves her job.”

Maggie attributes much of her strength and dedication to her family, particularly to Tom, who remains a significant influence in her life. He even watches her young son during her shifts at the Poverello Center. “Tom has taught me love, kindness, and gratitude,” Maggie says, “and I’m adopting these behaviors and values.”

As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, stories like Maggie’s remind us of the enduring legacy of the Poverello Center. We continue to provide food, shelter, help, and hope to all who ask, building a stronger community every step of the way.
