The Poverello Center

Volunteer Spotlight: Lucas

Daytime kitchen volunteers are crucial to our lunch and dinner services. Lucas, one of our kitchen volunteers, has only been volunteering with the Poverello Center for three months, but is already doing great work to provide food for our guests. He says “I like the energy of the people. Every person I’ve met here has been kind and friendly, and it’s nice to be a part of something and get involved in your community.”

He began volunteering because he was hoping to give back to the people around him. When a friend who works at the Poverello Center mentioned volunteer opportunities, it felt like a sign. That friend was Adri Medina, who is the Poverello Center’s People and Culture Coordinator. “I very briefly mentioned volunteering at the Pov to Lucas. The very next week I saw him cutting vegetables in the kitchen. In a world that sometimes feels overwhelming, Lucas reminds all of us of the power of kindness and authentic community care just by being himself. He is helpful, dedicated to learning, and has a big heart.”

Lucas encouraged anyone interested in volunteering to give it a try, especially for anyone who has been looking for a way to give back. To learn more about volunteering, visit thepoverellocenter.org/volunteer
