Volunteer Spotlight: David’s Angels

Our friends at David’s Angels hosted their thirteenth annual Christmas party at the Poverello Center this year, and it was a heart-warming success! The smell of sugar permeated the building, and people were laughing and smiling everywhere you looked.

Organizer Judy Sass and her team brought trays of cookies, goodie bags of warm socks and hats, and lots of gear. “I don’t know exactly how much we brought,” Judy said, “but we had 54 pairs of new women’s snow boots, and almost as many men’s boots. Last year, we ran out of hoodies, so I bought lots more for this year. I want this to be the year that no one is cold.”

In past years, the party has been held at the Johnson Street Emergency Shelter. Without that option this year, the Poverello was excited to provide space. People crowded into lines in our dining room to receive their presents, with options from travel mugs with tea bags included to snow gear.

Judy said that the parties over the years have taught her so much, and brought her many new friends: “The people here are so nice, and they care so much. I’ve gotten so many hugs just today.”

Thank you, Judy and David’s Angels, for bringing holiday cheer to the Poverello!
